Planning a Florida Keys vacation this November? You’re in luck – especially if you’re craving fresh crab!
On November 10th, Marathon will turn into a munch-a-thon, with the eighth annual Stone Crab Claw Eating Contest kicking off the Florida Keys’ stone crab harvest season.
Have a shell of a time as you crack, clean and eat 25 stone crab claws in the fastest time – or just enjoy watching the competition.
The contest is open for amateur eaters, taking place at Keys Fisheries Market and Marina, 35th Street gulfside. There’s an individual entry fee of $50 and two-person teams can register for $100.
Prizes include luxurious overnight stays, and passes to area attractions and eateries. Proceeds from the team event will benefit a Marathon-based charity.
Stone crab season runs from October 15th to May 15th, when hundreds of thousands of pounds of stone crab claws are steamed, cracked and served at local markets and restaurants.
